AI SRE

AI SRE: site reliability engineering, run by agents

An AI SRE is an AI agent that does site reliability work: it watches production, investigates incidents across the whole stack, explains what broke and why, and carries out approved remediation. Unlike a chatbot, it runs unattended — on a schedule or triggered by an alert — and every action it takes is governed and audited.

What an AI SRE actually does

The routine first hour of an incident is the same work every time: gather signals from four or five consoles, line them up on a timeline, find what changed, work out what it affects, and write it up. That hour is what an AI SRE takes on, so the engineers arrive at a formed hypothesis instead of a blank page.

  • Detect — surface abnormal patterns across metrics, logs and events before anyone raises a ticket.
  • Investigate — correlate signals across application, infrastructure, network and cloud to a probable root cause.
  • Explain — write the finding up with its evidence, so the reasoning can be checked rather than trusted.
  • Act — execute remediation once a person approves it, and record exactly what ran.
  • Report — summarise reliability and incident trends for the people who do not read dashboards.

AI SRE, AIOps and copilots are not the same thing

The agents behind it

Fabrix.ai ships these as named agents rather than one opaque assistant, so each can be enabled, scoped and audited on its own.

  • RCA Agent — performs root cause analysis by correlating signals across the stack.
  • Anomaly Detection Agent — detects abnormal patterns across metrics, logs and events.
  • Remediation Agent — executes approved remediation across apps, infrastructure and cloud.
  • Asset Health Reporting Agent — tracks service and asset health to surface degradation early.
  • Syslog Insights Agent — analyses syslogs to surface error patterns and operational risk.
  • SRE Ops and AIOps Exec Summary Agents — reliability summaries and incident trends for leadership.

What makes it safe to run in production

  • Read-only by default. Investigation needs no write access. Anything that changes state waits for a person to approve it.
  • Your data stays put. Agents query monitoring, logging and ticketing systems where they already run, with no copy and no migration.
  • Every run is auditable. Inputs, tool calls, conclusion and approver are recorded, so a decision can be reconstructed months later.
  • Your model, your environment. Cloud, Fabrix-managed or on-premises, including sovereign and air-gapped deployments.

Questions we get asked

What is an AI SRE?

An AI SRE is an AI agent that performs site reliability engineering work: monitoring production, investigating incidents across application, infrastructure, network and cloud, explaining the root cause with evidence, and executing remediation once a human approves it. It runs unattended rather than waiting to be prompted.

How is an AI SRE different from AIOps?

AIOps applies machine learning to operational telemetry — correlating alerts, cutting noise, spotting anomalies. An AI SRE uses that output and goes further: it decides what to investigate, reaches into the tools itself, reasons across domains and can act. AIOps produces better signals; an AI SRE does the work those signals imply.

Does an AI SRE replace site reliability engineers?

No. It takes the repeatable first hour — gathering, correlating, timelining and writing up — so engineers spend their time on judgement, design and the genuinely novel failures. Every state-changing action still requires a person to approve it.

What does an AI SRE need access to?

Read access to the systems that hold the evidence: monitoring and observability, logs, ticketing and ITSM, network and cloud. Write access is a separate, scoped grant and is not required for investigation, which is where most of the value is.

Can it run on-premises?

Yes. The platform deploys on-premises, in private or public cloud, and in air-gapped or sovereign environments, and the model itself can run locally so neither telemetry nor prompts cross your boundary.
